Top 10 Chess Tactics Explained

As a chess master,
I have had the privilege of playing
and analyzing countless games
of chess over the past 50 years.
Today, I am excited to share with you
the top 10 chess tactics
that are commonly used in the game.
Fork:
A fork is a tactic
where a piece attacks two or more
enemy pieces at the same time.
This tactic can be used to win material
or force the opponent to make a bad move.
Pin:
A pin is a tactic where a piece can’t move
because moving it would expose a more
valuable piece behind it.
The pinned piece cannot move
without losing the piece behind it,
which makes it a prime target for attack.
Skewer:
A skewer is similar to a pin,
except that the more valuable piece
is in front of the less valuable one.
This tactic can be used to win material
or force the opponent to make a bad move.
Discovered Attack:
A discovered attack is a tactic
where a piece moves out of the way,
revealing an attack by another piece behind it.
This can be a powerful tactic
because the opponent may not see the attack coming.
Double Attack:
A double attack is a tactic
where one piece attacks two enemy pieces
at the same time.
This can be used to win material
or force the opponent to make a bad move.
Decoy:
A decoy is a tactic
where a piece is sacrificed
in order to lure an enemy
piece to a specific square.
This can be used to set up a trap
or gain a positional advantage.
Deflection:
A deflection is a tactic
where an enemy piece is forced to move away
from a key square or piece.
This can be used to open up lines of attack
or create weaknesses in the opponent’s position.
