A little about Robespierre
He was elected to the Estates General in 1789. He became the leader of the Jocobin Club. The club derived its name from the monastary of the the Jacobins (Parisian name of the Dominicans) where the members met.
In July 1793 he was then elected to the Committee of Public Safety. Because of the dangers of foreign invasion and the urgent need to maintain order, the committee instituted the reign of terror. This occurred from 1793-1794.
In 1793 he demanded the execution of the King and was able to get rid of the Girondists his opposing party.
Robespierre was the most powerful man in France, by ever measure he was a dictator.
Marie Antoinette was also executed because of him.
